Celebrities and models may look amazing in what they wear but copying their look is not the most effective way to be stylish. You'll do justice to yourself if you identify your style and wear clothes that bring out the best version of you. At this point you may be thinking - "That's fine, but how do I find my personal fashion style?"
There are ways to do it and you'll find them here. You may start by looking around for inspiration and trying different types of clothes. Create a mood board as well to clarify your vision. It will also serve as your own realistic inspiration that can be used to update your wardrobe. Before we dig deeper into ways of creating your personal style, let's understand what personal fashion style is.
Personal Fashion Style
We have been writing 'personal fashion style' all this while but coming to think of it, style is personal. It's your way of expressing yourself through your dressing or your other choices. The amazing thing about style is that you can be stylish even if you don't follow the latest in fashion trends. That's because fashion relates to a time while style is timeless.
Find Your Style
Don't put too much pressure on yourself to find your style in a day. It takes time but if you follow some strategies, you'll get there.
- Audit your closet: That's right. Look at the clothes you have and identify the ones that make you feel confident and nice about yourself. See if there's a common factor between those clothes.
- Look for Fashion Inspiration: But you don't have to look too far. Your inner circle of people will give you some good options. That's not all, as you can scroll through Instagram or other social media to see how people are dressing up. Check them out in their casuals, like tops, jeans, shorts, and also in their workwear.
- Make a Mood Board: When you create a concrete vision of what your style looks like on a mood board, you're closer to making it real. Put all the pieces of inspiration together onto a mood board and see it come to life. Even if your mood board doesn't seem to set a clear tone for your style, don't worry. Look at all the images you have put together and observe commonality in the attire of the models. That may not be your final style but it's beginning to take shape. Pick 2-3 images that represent the mood board and save them on your phone as a reference for when you shop.
- Create a Capsule Wardrobe: This is just a fancy way of saying that you should have a collection of clothes that are in neutral colors and can be mixed and matched for a quick and effortlessly stylish look. These constitute denim, leggings, t-shirts, and so on. Remove the pieces from your wardrobe that are not aligned with your core collection and replace them as and when possible.
- Don't Shy away from Experimentation: This will help you discover hidden aspects of your personality and style. So, find different types of pieces and try them. It's your style, so you have the right to change your mind if something doesn't turn out the way you expected. Play with fashion but don't sweat. Try different types of prints, textures, and colors. Try accessories also.
Remember this is about your style. So, this process of discovering your style will remain enjoyable and fruitful if you don't worry about what others are wearing. Take inspiration but just focus on yourself.
