Holi is probably the only festival that brings out the child in us grown-ups. Vibrancy and fun are part of this festival of colors. And if you're concerned about the effect of colors on your hair and skin, then we've got you covered. If you follow the simple tips then you can indulge in the enjoyment and fun of playing Holi without worrying about your hair. Tips on protecting your skin are provided in the skincare section.
Oil Your Tresses
Don't step out without oiling your hair. Put sufficient amount of oil about an hour or two before playing Holi. Another option is to use a leave-in conditioner or hair serum. You may also use coconut milk if you don't prefer the other options. Gently massage it onto your scalp, covering the roots of your hair to their ends. This way your hair and scalp would have a protective layer.
Tie Them Up
Never leave your hair untied and flowy while playing Holi. Instead, tie a pretty bun or a braid. You'll be able to preserve your hairstyle when you play with colors and most importantly, you'll be able to save your hair from colors. Not entirely, but at least the dry colors won't get deep into your hair.
Glam Them Up with A Scarf
Choose a vibrant and colorful scarf that does justice to the occasion and cover your hair with it. The scarf will glam up your tresses and protect them from dry color.
After Holi Masti
After all the fun-filled Holi celebrations, you'll be glad that you prepared well for the colors. When you wash your hair don't use hot water in the hurry to wash off the colors fast. That may lead to breakage of hair. Instead, use cold water and shampoo your hair. After you rinse off the color and shampoo, use a conditioner to restore the moisture in your hair. You'll find it easy to detangle your hair after conditioning.
If you feel there's too much color in your hair then apply egg yolk on your hair for about 20 minutes. This will make your hair smoother and color removal would not be a pain anymore. Another alternative is a mixture of some fenugreek powder and yogurt. Apply this on your hair and leave it on for about 20 minutes. Use a clarifying shampoo instead of a regular one to cleanse your hair.
Follow these tips for the sake of your tresses and enjoy Holi to the max.
